Avatar mood

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Jut came back from the cinema. I watched “Avatar”. A bit after the many reviews and I am not really going to add another in terms of review except to say that I think it was perrrrrfect and that James Cameron is pure genius. It has inspired me with many thoughts and I think I will be posting those thoughts throughout the week but I am warning people out there, I am in Avatar mood.

It is intriguing how different people see the same thing from different prospective and as amazing the graphics were, I could not help but think about the writing and how the story was told. I wanted to use this blog to write two of my eight, or so, novels that I plotted years ago, but after watching Avatar I will give one a miss for now. It is a story that I partly saw in a dream and designed the plot afterward. But has the concept of different people and different worlds.

I feel overwhelmingly inspired and this usually spiral into several projects. Hmmmmm :)

Adding pictures

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Untitled-1As I blog, I often look back at the post and feel that it needs more colour. I cannot commit to drawing, although I would love to do so, and I feel that I should either take a picture by myself to a relevant topic or something that would look beautiful for the eye to keep on reading.

I was thinking that on paper I might put stickers to decorate a piece of writing then I thought how lovely it will be to create digital equivalence to stickers :) butterfly2

I took a picture of a beautiful box that I have and using photoshop, I selected the images I liked. I started with butterflies, of course. However, I cannot promise much art for last minute postings.

Bells

Decorated wooden bells (edited using photoshop)

Decorated wooden bells (edited using photoshop)

On my last visit to Bahrain, I found some very special items, among those were beautifully coloured wooden bells (pictured left but there are strings which I edited out). I felt the decoration and the combination colours were so breath taking that I suddenly was very inspired to paint.

I was thinking of how many to get and who to give them to and having arrived back I feel that I should have bought more. I think I will in my next trip. I think they are a simple reminder to let people feel remembered as well as a beautiful “forget me not” kind of gift.

Then I thought about the different uses of the bells such as getting attention, setting an alarm, communicating, sounding celebrations and to ward off evil. A bell says, “I am here and I have something of importance for others to hear” in a resonating sound.

Ignore the critics and Just do it

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Another one of those “Just do it” Nike commercials but with a very nice inspirational message. It features Lance Armstrong, road racing cyclist and chairman of the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research and support. Armstrong broke a record of winning the Tour de France race for seven consecutive years (1999-2005). This was after his battle with cancer. In 1996, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer that spread to his lungs, abdomen and brain.

His critics claimed that the drugs he was taking for treatment made him out perform his peers. He faced many such accusations that aimed to discredit his wins. A man who not only battled cancer and survived its complications but was also determined to practice to race, competed and won. Even if it was only one race win, he would still be an inspiration.

Morning glory

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I opened my eyes and checked whether I stopped the alarm on my mobile or pressed snooze. Confirming that it was the latter I returned to sleep and kept to this pattern until another 4 or 5 repeats. “I slept late,” I reasoned, “or perhaps I am aiming to wake up too early and achieve too much.” I continued, “anyhow I deserve more sleep” I buried my face in the pillow.

“Could it be that I am avoiding the list of things I have to do or that I have lost my motivation all of a sudden?” It is this thought that made me jump up and get ready for the day. I knew that if I continued there and then I would waste another hour or so just pondering in more thoughts of the reasons for waking. I never understood the process fully but I know that slumber can stretch into laziness and vegetation especially if it was the weekend and with no boss or other responsibilities to attend to, I would be snoozing all day. Activity leads to more activity and I had to just push that start button to begin.

I am a postgraduate student so I should be at liberty to schedule my own priorities and divide my time. However there is something about morning glory that cannot be gained in any other time. The early hours where thoughts are born anew. With no predetermination of their nature or of any prerequisites. Where your head is unclouded by the thoughts of others, no buzzing of various information or news. Just you welcoming the day to embrace whatever challenges you may face with a fresh star, a revitalized strength and a renewed spirit. To start a day and make it another one of your own. To hold and remember. I woke up to more dreams to realize, more projects to accomplish and more moments to capture :)
