An improvised lesson

Super Jijo

Super Jijo

My son loves role playing and sometimes he imagines the costumes, other times we buy them, and other times he would ….well… improvise :)

On one of those days, he approached me with his take on Nintendo’s Super Mario. He had combined some of his clothes so to look like the character even though the colours were off and he told me to imagine them different.

I decided to use this opportunity to show him some photoshop techniques, and to explain to him how various pictures can be edited. We would often come across pictures that are unreal. These may include funny emails or sometimes different characters in movies or characters suspended in mid air. It is hard for him to distinguish sometimes or even believe that what he sees can be the result of an image manipulation rather than a direct snap short. We as adults need to think twice sometimes.

I am no artist but the simple changes I made were enough to illustrate my point. So next time he sees unreal characters or effects that make no sense, he would remember our small project and figure that it is the result of someone else’s creativity rather than it being real. It is easier to make a point through a demonstration.

I love him most when he wants to play a “FARIS”!! :-)

  • The funniest is when adults believe that photoshopped pictures are true!

Oh man, animals must be laughing at our stupidity.
